Our Story
Amy Mitchell is the founder of Anchor Her Ministries. At the age of 15 Amy received Christ and was baptized but didn’t know how to walk out a Christian lifestyle. She went to church with her grandparents on Christmas and Easter and always felt this amazing peace and love there in the midst of a dysfunctional life.
By the age of 19 Amy had become a single mother on government assistance, facing a 5 year jail sentence and losing custody of her daughter Mariah. By the grace of God, she got probation and did not go to prison or lose custody of her daughter.
At the age of 24 Amy was injured and taken to Safe Home Domestic Violence Shelter. At the shelter Amy was connected with a mentor by the name of Pam. This was a pivotal point in Amy’s life. Through the guidance, encouragement and compassion from her mentor, she was able to find a home for her and her children as well as stable employment.
As years went on, Amy learned how to walk out a Christian lifestyle and what it meant to have a true intimate relationship with the Lord. Through her life she can see the footprints in the sand where Jesus carried her and how God truly does work all things together for the good of those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28).
Today Amy and her daughter Mariah volunteer their time at the Johnson County Adult Residential Center as well as various jails and shelters; loving women back to life with the gospel and the word of their testimony. They also offer weekly support groups, one on one mentoring and quarterly events and retreats. Amy’s life calling is to show women the love of Christ by taking the broken pieces of her life and showing them beauty from ashes
(Isaiah 61:1-3).
